The ABFF and Laugh Out Loud Filmmaker Fellowship has been launched to showcase exciting new comedic creative voices. We are specifically seeking writer/directors with comedic narrative film ideas and scripts 5 to 10 minutes in length, that feature diverse casts or have a broad appeal to multicultural audiences. Three filmmakers will be selected to receive a production budget of up to $20,000, have their films produced and then premiered at the 2018 American Black Film Festival, between June 13-17, in Miami, Fl.

Key Submission & Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must reside within the U.S. and be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must submit an original short film script, of five (5) to ten (10) minutes in length (which can be achievable within a production budget of up to $20,000)
  • Film must engage a multi-cultural, millennial audience, with a focus on comedy narrative.
  • Entrant must include a reel of the attached director and visual references, animatic or pre-vis defining the director’s approach to the material.
  • Entrant must provide current resume of the writer and/or director, including experience on any major motion pictures, web series, independent or student films, as well as any other relevant experience.
  • Submissions must be capable of achieving principal photography over the course of approximately six (6) days or less.
